Female Argiope bruennichi. (family Araneidae).
We call it here a 'wasp spider'.

I found this spider by accident and shot a lot of pictures because I had never seen it before and really loved it's appearance. At home I had a pretty old spider book which said this spider didn't exist in The Netherlands! I was in total shock!! :w00t: I had found a rare spider and photographed it! :boogie: The next day I returned to the same spot hoping I would find it again. I even found two!! I shot as many pictures as I could in even more different positions and angles to make sure I covered everything... Couldn't be more happier!
I even made sure I made clear photo's of it's habitat and the surroundings!

A few days later I learned it is slowly gaining territory here in The Netherlands and the information from my book is 'a bit' outdated.... :-( Great lesson learned....

Still a beautiful spider though... ;-)

On this photo she has caught an insect in her web and is wrapping it with thread. You can see a very wide thread coming from her spinners. (Sorry if I have all the scientific names wrong.... Don't know how to explain it in correct English terms...)

I hope you like it! Comments and critiques are very welcome again! ;-) And please don't laugh at me...

:giggle: It has expanded its geographically distribution enormously in recent years. It used to be limited to south-eastern Europe but can now be found even in Great Britain and Sweden. [link])/Volume%20135(1),%20pp.%2033-37.pdf has an article about this species.

We got a lot of them here too, we even have one in our garden.

Hey there John, well I don't think I'm one to give advanced critique..:giggle: but I still wanted to say that this is a wonderful capture in my opinion.. I really love how the spider web looks.. I think the DOF is beautifully done!! And it looks like he/she's doing a handstand on the web.. very cool... (how's that for "advanced" haha..) :+fav: Great work m'friend!

Argh, that link didn't work. Enter "Argiope" in the search field of the site that comes up, and then choose the article by

Ow dat wist ik niet :) Bedankt voor de informatie :)
Wie weet kan ik een duidelijkere foto maken van zowel de spin als het web in de toekomst :)
