This is my first deviation since quite a while.... I shot this lovely creature in the South of France. To me it's an Unidentified Spikey Object. I have no idea what it is. I think it's some kind of Grasshopper, as it could jump incredibly far! :faint:

I hope someone can tell me what this is as I have never seen it before. I shot also a few green ones....

I hope you like it. If not: tell me! And also why.... Learning learning learning....

*EDIT* Thanks to Kathrin (:iconmarble911:) who pointed out this is a 'Acrida ungarica'. I guess this makes it a 'Identified Spikey Object' now... :ashamed:

It lives mainly on dry, barely vegetated land. (Rarely in moist areas). Common in the Mediterranean, Hungary and South of Austria. (Doesn't exist here in the Netherlands...)

Amazing focus and depth!

It resembles the new world Achurum genus of Toothpick Grasshoppers, but I'm not certain exactly what it is.

What a lovely creature! The blurry grass in the foreground is a bit distracting but I guess there's not much you could've done without scaring it away.

I think it's a slant-faced grasshopper (Acridinae subfamily). My book has only one species from that subfamily as an example (Acrida ungarica) but there are probably others that are similar.

Hi Kathrin! Thanks for your reply... I was stunned to see this creature and actually didn't see the green grasses until at home at my pc. It's one of the most beautiful ones I have seen so far. Although later that holiday I've seen some other great ones which I'll post soon.
I have googled the 'slant-faced grasshopper', but can't find any that resembles this one... Maybe I found a rare mutated grasshopper!! :w00t: (Probably not...)
