This is my first deviation since quite a while.... I shot this lovely creature in the South of France. To me it's an Unidentified Spikey Object. I have no idea what it is. I think it's some kind of Grasshopper, as it could jump incredibly far! :faint:

I hope someone can tell me what this is as I have never seen it before. I shot also a few green ones....

I hope you like it. If not: tell me! And also why.... Learning learning learning....

*EDIT* Thanks to Kathrin (:iconmarble911:) who pointed out this is a 'Acrida ungarica'. I guess this makes it a 'Identified Spikey Object' now... :ashamed:

It lives mainly on dry, barely vegetated land. (Rarely in moist areas). Common in the Mediterranean, Hungary and South of Austria. (Doesn't exist here in the Netherlands...)

[link] does look similar, doesn't it? Better google the scientific genus and family name. The English name will only give you English pages and there probably aren't that many since afaik it's more of a Mediterranean species. If you use the scientific names, you'll get more hits, in particular if it is about less widely known species.

Lol I didn't know your life depended on it :p but you're always welcome!
As I said, I'd not bet my head on this being the same species, could also be something similar. Don't have the right literature to distinguish between these species, but it's definitely something related.
:icon70hn:
Well, it would do for now. I hope someone will point out otherwise if so....
Thanks again for your help!
