So I try to avoid my PC, although it's quite hard with deviantART around....
But thank God also fun things happen. Monday I had a commercial shoot where I played the stand-in for the mayor of Amsterdam who has to unicycle in the commercial. That was a lot of fun. Don't think the doctors would allow me doing this, so I didn't tell.
You can check my website [link] to see some photo's of one of the last takes. I was wearing a wig, loads of make-up and a suit. Just click 'Enter' and you'll see the pics. When the commercial is done, I'll let you guys know.
Also I want to thank everybody massively for the
Another reason for this journal, is because of a statement ~abart made in a comment on my profile. He said (and I quote):
"seems like one cannot get an ideal photo without using photoshop .... i hv concluded after visiting so many galleries that u always need to treat ur photos in any photoeditting tool to achieve best quality"
We had a sort of '2 man discussion' about it. I like to have more opinions about this to create a sort of discussion because it is an interesting subject. Do you need to use photoshop or all kinds of filters to create a good looking picture? If you look at pictures which are clearly post-processed, will they have looked less great without the use of photoshop? Or without the use of special filters?
I'd like to hear what you think about it. You can read the discussion on my profile page if you like.
Sorry for the bunch of blabla, but it feels like I just had to say it to someone.
Please forgive me for not responding (or very late) to your comments/fav's and watches!
Thanks for reading
John

About what Abart said; photoshop is a tool, just like a darkroom was used for photography before. Darkrooms where even used for manipulating pictures before. No one can tell you how post process your pictures, everyone has their one way, And i really like your's

I'm sorry it's till not any better!
But yes...well...do more photography, it's the healthier hobby!
The commercial sounds fun, though, and the photos are cool too. What's the ad for?
As for ~abart's statement...well, that's an interesting and tricky one. First of all, it's bullshit that every photo needs treatment in a photo editing tool. It may be true that in the great majority of photos, it's easier to get the results you'd like most by post-processing, but it's by no means a must. You can get great ones straight out of the camera too. If had a few ones that I wouldn't have changed anything about, or tried editing and then went back to the original because I liked it better. But the majority of photos can benefit from photoediting programmes. I use levels/curves/contrast for minor adjustments in most of my photos.
As for photoshop... I routinely post photos that are unaltered except for resizing. They are just fine on their own. If one knows a bit about how to actually use their camera, one should be able to create great shots without the crutch of post-editing.

Frustration isnt healthy but neither is trying to hang on to the life the drs tell you to have a break from. I'm 2 1/2 years since a major accident & believe me, ignoring them slows down progress. But photography really helps!! ... or at least it helps me handle it. [grins] you could try learning to play an instrument like guitar... that doesnt involve eyes
Photoshop? really? Tell that to some of my photos then
Sure, if i shoot in RAW i'd need to process them to create jpegs... but thats no different to if i shoot in film & have to develop them.
It depends on how well you know your camera & what settings to use in what situation. Improve with practice & through trial & error. & to a smaller degree, having quality equipment will improve things slightly - though should really only alter the things you can do, not how well you do them. ie: if you dont have a flash, dont try to take people shots in the dark

As for photoshop... if someone likes using it, let'em do it. I don't own ps, but sometimes, when the photo is darkened I use other photoediting tools but majority of my photos (even if not as good as eg. marble's) haven't been enhanced. That's all

hope it isn't anything permanet.
As for the P.S'ers, fuck em.
If anyone want too see a unedited version of anything, i would let them see it. The only problem being they may steal it.

If you are always telling the truth, you don't have to remember what you said.
Cool commercial!
As for P.S. ... I agree with the first response.. it's today's darkroom... I don't believe every photo NEEDS it, but I believe that it gives you the capability to make small adjustments that may enhance...
